A little soapbox time

So I have spent quite a few hours on the internet the last couple of days. I should have doing a whole slew of other things but whatev.

So I've been on the net and I've been reading all about a little thing called Blogher convention. For those of you who don't know (the whole 2 of you that read this blog) Blogher is an organization started by and ran by women bloggers. Every year they have a big 'ol party and all the women bloggers in all the land come together to network and learn. I've never been and I just really learned about it in the last few months. Sounds fantabulous no?

Apparently, not so much.

Like I said I've been reading a lot of blogs posts about it in the last couple of days and while I was thinking that it is something I might really enjoy now I think maybe not. I don't know. (And please don't start the "its-what-you-make-of-it" stuff. I TOTALLY agree with that.) I've just read so much complaining and gossip and plain meanness. I mean, lets be honest you get any amount of women together over the age of 10 and there's gonna be drama. At least at some point. And that's not to say we can't all get along but what I've been reading is that women are just feeding on the drama. A little post here is linked to a comment there that is linked to a blog here and on and on it goes.

I'm not one to go on and on about how oppressed we are as women. I'm of the opinion that we are only as oppressed as we think we are and we allow ourselves to be. That being said I believe we do have to fight harder sometimes to get a little farther or get a little more. That's why I think it is hugely important that any time we can come together as women to support each other and have each other's back we should do so. That's what I thought the Blogher convention would be all about. How disappointing to see that instead of women taking this time to build each other up they were too busy tearing each other down.

AGAIN, I am only writing in reference to what I read from those who have gone. I don't necessarily think that this will keep me from going ever. I think that to truly understand the dynamic I will have to attend at some point. But it just kind of saddened me to see these brilliant and funny women tearing each other down. And no I'm not going to link any posts or any blogs. I don't want to perpetuate the situation. I just wanted to jump on my little soapbox and give my opinion. And that's all I have to say about that.

Rest in Peace

Remember this post?

Randy Pausch, 47, passed away yesterday. What a loss. If you haven't yet watched his Last Lecture make sure you do. It's worth the watch.

And it's all becoming so clear, sort of.

Today was a day of clarification. And this is going to be one of those mystery posts. You know the one's you read where you know they have something big to say but they WON'T JUST SAY IT. Sorry folks.

I've always been one of those people that seems to have a bit of a sixth sense. I'm no psychic but I will just get a gut feeling about something or someone and I'd say about 90% of the time I'm right. Well I've had this feeling for awhile regarding a certain life situation. I've been churning over it and felt like it was coming. And today I got my confirmation. Well, sort of. I got the confirmation that it's coming. And strangely, I'm okay it. Maybe okay is pushing it but I'm dealing with it. Being the Type A that I am I can't just NOT freak out over it. But I'm 80% sure I've already got the situation dealt with so it's all going to be okay.

And now I would like that chocolate I asked for with a very large bottle of wine.

A new shirt

So I made myself a little shirt. It actually took me forever because my sewing machine broke down in the middle of it! But it was super easy. After I made the shirt (I got the basic idea from the The Farm Chicks.) I decided to spiff it up with a few little yo-yo's, a waist trimming and some ruffles at the shoulders. What do you think?

Jalapeno Hands

+

=

That's right. And I'm not even kidding. I chopped up 20 jalapenos (and no I DIDN'T wear gloves! I didn't KNOW!) and my hands have been ON FREAKING FIRE for 7 hours! Let's see I've tried vinegar (made them burn worse), honey (short-lived relief), washing them repeatedly (water makes it worse) and even hand sanitizer (Thank you they are now triple the heat.) Just when you think they are feeling better they start to get worse. I googled it and apparently Jalapeno Hands are quite the problem out there. Oh and every was freaking out about their contacts. I guess even hours after they have chopped up their Jalapenos they took out their contacts and almost ripped out their eye due to the pain. So I got my happy butt out of the house at midnight tonight to go get some latex gloves so I can at least sleep with my contacts out of my eyes. Seriously this is awful. I beg of you, next time you deal with peppers, USE THE DAGUM GLOVES.

*UPDATE: My #%$&@ hands WOKE ME UP in the middle of the night from the pain. Now it is morning and only 2 and half fingers are hurting. I'll take it.

Feeling the blues

Picture from here.

I need a cupcake. A chocolate, chocolatey one. Pronto. ASAP. Immediately if not sooner. Somebody send me one. If you do I'll give you a cookie. Please?
I've got the blahs. Blahbity, blah, blah, blah. Having one of those weeks. Feeling a little useless, feeling a little under the weather, feeling a little boring. I'm feeling a little itch for change. Wanting something different. Not sure what that is yet. But I'm sure if you send me some chocolate cupcakes I'll be able to get right out of this funk. So help a girl out will ya?

We have a problem with perception

I saw this video on another blog and had to share it. I love what Dave is trying to do. Women's perception of what we should look like just gets more and more what with the Kate Moss's, Naomi Campbell's and Paris Hilton's of the world. I'm going to save this video and show it to my niece's repeatedly as they grow up.

For My Girls

I sent this out to my favorite girls earlier but I just wanted to share this with the rest of you. I love my girls!

For Sister, Shut Up Shari, TU, My Favorite Roomie, Sis, Sybil and The Nice One. You are my peeps. Thanks for everything.

GIRLS IN MY CIRCLE

When I was little, I used to believe in the concept of one best friend, and then I started to become a woman. And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up, God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man.

Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.

Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in yourchildren and their activities.

Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.

One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,'Another , 'Let's fight together,'

Another, 'Let's walk away together.'

One friend will meet your spiritual need,

Another your shoe fetish,

Another your love for movies,

Another will be with you in your season of confusion,

Another will be your clarifier,

Another, the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life,

On whatever the occasion,

On whatever the day,

Or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hairpulled back,

Or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself.

Those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one woman,

But for many, it's wrapped up in several.

One from 7th grade,

One from high school,

Several from the college years,

A couple from old jobs,

On some days your mother,

On some days your neighbor,

On others your sisters,

And on some days, your daughters.

So whether they've been your friend for 20 minutes or 20 years,

Pass this on to the women in your life.

Who make a difference.

Thank you my girls for absolutely everything.

Survey says!

So I need your help. I'm taking a poll. And I'll explain it later but just post your answer as a comment pretty, pretty please!

The Yellow Pages shows up on your doorstep. What do you do?

1. Use it as a door stopper.
2. Throw it away immediately.
3. Put it on your desk because you will definetely use it later.

Thanks for the help!
