wow, this is hard. both are lovely.

i have to say #1. the tart is flawless and the design in the chocolate dusting took it to a whole other level.

Tough decisions. #1 is fancy - beautifully presented. Even looks tasty. But when I want dessert, I want DESSERT (which means a large portion). So, I'm voting for #2 - looks festive, deliciously moist and enough to satisfy my serious sweet tooth.

"#2. Looks more like a King Cake which is what is normally served around this time of year!"

I have to say #1

The creativity is very cool with the multi colored cake for #2 though. #1 just looks a bit fancier and it's Chocolate! Need I say more?

I'm not much a pecan fan, but #1 looks really yummy!

When I think of a traditional Mardi Gras dessert, #2 pulls ahead. Bright colors, generous portions, indulgent - the last big dessert before Lent.

However, when I take into account my personal preferences, the simplicity and presentation of #1 cause it to shine. It looks tempting, I want to eat it. And the dusting of the fleur de lis is exceptional.

(Can you tell I want to be a celibrity judge on Top Chef?)

Tough choice.

Exceptional work by both chefs. But my vote for best Mardi Gras Dessert 2009 is....

We'll be right back with this year's winner in just a moment.
